Comfort Bags

Hello everyone!  It has been a long while since I have been here and I apologize. I haven’t been feeling well and my medications haven’t been agreeing with me,  but I digress.  There are more important things to talk about.

Recently I was honored at a breakfast along with eight other remarkable people as a Senior Champion for doing charitable work. I was sincerely humbled.IMG_20170809_164501_751

Even now as I sit typing this blog, I smile and realize how lucky I am to be doing what I am doing.

I am working on what I call Comfort Bags. The bag will contain 1 handmade (crocheted) blanket. The blankets will be all different sizes and the bag will also have 1 stuffed animal. I have the yarn for the blankets and I also have the bags. What I need help with is the stuffed animals. That is why I have started a go fund me page.  Help me get some stuffed animals .    The bags will be given to our local police department to give to children that have been traumatized in one way or another. This will let them know that someone cares and loves them.

To me, this is not work, it is a labor of love. I have been doing this for years and I will be doing this for a long time to come.

A Stick And Some String

Day 19

A Stick And Some String

I wonder how the idea of crochet came about

Did they try and try and fail and pout

Makes you wonder how they came to ponder

that one would even try to conjure

Why they would persist at anything

With a little stick and some string

Just For Me

I really need some new dish cloths. So after some pondering, it took quite some time to convince myself that it would be alright for me to take some time off and make something Just For Me.

You see, I’m not used to doing that. I am usually busy making things for others that it doesn’t even cross my mind to make something for myself. I figured that I make dish cloths so quickly that I really could take some time for me. And you know what?  It feels good.  Besides that, I’ve been wanting to try this new yarn organizer that my sister got me for Christmas. It keeps the balls from becoming tangled or rolling across the floor. I have to tell you Tracy (sister), I Love It!!! Thank you, Thank you.

I didn’t get into my cotton yarn bin for these colors. These were easy to get to. If you saw my stash, you would understand my dilemma on getting to my cotton bin. Oh dear   😦

That is going to be my project for another day. It gives me a headache just thinking about it! LOL  Well friends, it’s time to show you some photos of the dishcloth that I am making and of the  colors that I picked for the others. I figured that three cloths would be enough for now.

I’ll show you the end product. It won’t take too long for me to finish these. Then I have to figure out what I’m going to start on next. Everything I make is…

Made-with-Love

2017-A Year For Doing Good Things

What a great way to start off the new year.  I got a pleasant surprise the other day by email.

I made a Christmas afghan a couple of years ago that got auctioned off for charity.  Well, the person that won it sent me an email. They said how much they enjoyed the afghan and that they had gotten many compliments on it. They also said that I should make more of them.

Afghan I made for charity.

To say that I was overjoyed is an understatement. I know that my plans for crocheting more for charity this year is a good one and a plan that I will keep. It makes me feel good to know that people really do appreciate good work.

I was thinking about all of the different color combinations that I could choose from and I thought about two or three different blues and white. The possibilities are endless.

The email that I got has made me realize another thing. How very important it is to think of others. That you are keeping someone warm or making a security blanket for a child. Or just the simple fact that you care enough about someone and I have been blessed to see the smile and joy on a child’s face when they get a blanket. That is enough for me to keep on doing this thing that I have been doing for years and years. The smiles of appreciation. Oh yeah, that will do it for me.

Just Another Sunday…I Think

Who knows what today will bring. I’ve gotten up a lot earlier than usual, which is odd. I’m drinking my first cup of coffee for the day. It’s delicious by the way. I’ve gotten peppermint mocha coffee creamer. Oh Yummy! I may have more than my usual 2 cups!!

But, I must digress and get on with my post, and please let me know what you think. I have some need of your input.

I started on this project a few days ago. I’m making a scarf and I’m using Debbie Bliss Milano which is just beautiful to work with. I’m even thinking about putting on some beads for a little bit of flash. I just can’t decide which ones yet.  Usually when I want to add beads to something I just crochet them into the project, however, I actually didn’t decide on the beads until this morning. I do know that I don’t want them throughout the whole scarf. More around the ends would be to my liking. This isn’t a winter scarf, it’s more of an every day scarf, it’s light weight and would go with just about anything. I’m making it long enough that you could wrap it several different ways.

I’ve taken a few photos of the project.

The flash went off in the first photo. The actual color is in-between the photos. The middle one is one of the different beads I have to choose from. This last photo is a closeup shot of the beads. Hmmm…decisions decisions.  The beads on the top are glass beads which are very pretty. The grey beads on the left and then the wooden beads on the right.

Who knows, I may finish this scarf yet. Then I have to choose some colors for my next project. A giant Granny Square! I just love making granny squares. I may even start the giant granny today. It wouldn’t be the first time that I have more than one project on a hook!
